The latest thing on the business scene is “going green.” Environment is a big item and Jacquelyn’s Salon of Elk Grove has opened in Elk Grove Harbor Palms Shopping Center at I-5 and Elk Grove Boulevard and has developed their own “Green Team” to change traditional salon practices and implement a recycling program to help the community to become more environmentally friendly. Owner Jackie Pometta said her Salon Team recycling practices are being implemented daily.
“Among our many features is the hair clipping and runned-nylons recycling program,” she said. “Clean cut hair is boxed in recycled boxes and saved for `matter of trust hair’ for oil spills program. And we also accept washed, used (even with runs) nylon stocking donations for making oil spill bogs.”
Pometta also cited what she called the Locks of Love technique. She stated that whenever possible, hair will be saved and sent to the Locks of Love Foundation for making wigs. Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
She stated Jacquelyn’s Salon of Elk Grove features six specialists. They include a ethnic hair specialist, a multicultural hair specialist, hair color expert, and two manicurists. All have had long experience in the beauty field. Pometta, herself, has had over 30 years in the styling profession and this is her fourth salon.
